As a first-generation Greek Cypriot American, I traveled to Crete in the summer of 2023 for an artist residency and to explore my cultural ties to a Greek island similar to my homeland of Cyprus. The intention of this investigation is to discover and deepen my connections to my heritage. Using the elements of Greek traditional dance and allowing the environment around me to influence my body's natural rhythms, "Remember the Days at the Old Schoolyard" draws upon the folklore and cultural motifs of the Greek-Cypriot culture while reflecting upon my diasporic experiences as a first-generation Greek Cypriot American. It is an investigation of the relationships my body and my mind have with my generational and ancestral past.
